about me

I'm a French teacher living in Melbourne but originally from Christchurch, New Zealand.

My obsession with all things French began when I was little and our family was visiting Tahiti. When the lady who was cleaning the house we were staying in said, Bonjour, petite fille, to me, I screamed and ran all the way back down the driveway. Such was the terror this nonsensical language instilled in me, that I have spent my whole life trying to overcome it. I even went as far as getting a PhD in Medieval French.

Another thing which gives me great pleasure, is writing. I used to always write when I was little, stories and poems and plays. There has been a large gap between then and when I started again three years ago. And I am happy to have found my voice again.

One of my greatest thrills is talking to people who are passionate about what they do. When I was in Christchurch, I had a show on a local radio station in the port town of Lyttelton. The weekly show was built around one or two interviews with passionate people: dancers, singers, artists, chefs, a jeweller, a cheese maker, a cyclist, film-makers and more. When people tell you about what they love, their eyes light up and they phrase things in ways that I would never have thought of. It was a gift to have been able to talk to these people and hear their stories.

So that's where the lyttel in lyttel fish, big pond comes from. From a small port town to a big city which offers me so much that I love and allows me to continue hearing other peoples' stories as well as create my own.
